Big Boy Bed

As promised, here are some pictures of Carter's "big boy bed." He absolutely loves it!

He has done a fantastic job transitioning to sleeping exclusively in this bed. How did we work the transition? Well, he went to spend a week at his grandparent's house, and I decided that we would start making him sleep in his bed as soon as he got back (since, at that point, he was no longer "used" to his crib...). I think this worked great!

UPDATE ON SLEEP HABITS: I haven't had to stage any more campouts like I mentioned in THIS POST. It really only took 3-4 "correctional moments" for him to get the point that "when we put you in the bed, you cannot get back out." The harder thing for him to understand is what to do when he wakes up early. We've had a few 6am wake-ups, but we just put him back in bed and tell him it's not time to get up yet. This has worked so far. This morning, however, we heard a lil' voice reading his "boos" (books) at 4:30am. I got up and found that he had turned on his light, and was sitting in his bean bag chair surrounded by books he had pulled off the shelf :-) I could tell he was still tired but thought it was morning time, so I turned off the light and put him back in bed - explaining that it was still night time and he needed to keep sleeping. He cried for about half a second and then went back to sleep. I really think he understands me when I talk to him about his bed/sleeping habits, so now when he gets in the bed, I remind him of the "rules." Call me crazy, but I really think the "review" may help!

The rails on it are different, but I love them both! On one side, there is a more "permanent" (but completely removable) RAIL that basically pinches the mattress and the bedding - not only does it hold Carter in, but it also keeps the bed made on that side! The OTHER RAIL is slightly less hardcore, but it still does it's main job of holding Carter in. It also folds down, so that I can make the bed. I have a thing about made-up beds. It takes 2 seconds and makes the whole house feel cleaner!!!

Carter's nightstand is an old organ bench that our neighbors were throwing away. It's the perfect height, and once we painted it - it looks nice too! Not too bad for free. It holds his lamp, monitor, and 2 favorite books. Right now the faves are his Adventure Bible Storybook and his My Favorite Bible Songs book.

The light switch has an EXTENDER on it that we got in a 3 pack. We put one in his bedroom, bathroom, and playroom. He LOVES THESE! He is so proud to be able to turn on and off the lights!!! As I mentioned previously, the downside is that his little light may be on at 4:30am now :-) Oh well! At least he wasn't wandering around his room in complete darkenss!

Our big boy loves his room, and we couldn't be happier!
