Every Good Dog Needs a Boy

Fischer is our big, brown, licking lab. I am not a dog person...I am not sure how Kevin convinced me to get a lab - the doggiest of dogs... I think he must have shown me puppy pictures and made me watch "Marley and Me"...who wouldn't want a lab after that?!?! Don't get me wrong, I thought Fischer was the snuggliest of puppies, but then he grew up, got crazy, chewed up things I didn't want chewed up, developed a SEVERE licking habit, manages to shed piles of hair on a daily basis, and sadly my affections faded - until recently. You see, I recently realized just HOW MUCH FUN our boys are going to have with their "brother."

There's something about a boy and his dog. 

Every good dog needs a boy! 

Carter loves his big brown lab of a brother! 

I am so excited to see him grow up with Fischer - they already have so much in common...a love for the outdoors, playing rough, getting dirty, and chewing on their BLANKETS (we aren't sure who took after who)!

REAL LIFE NOTE: So I am sitting outside, watching Carter play in the backyard - this is how I get to blog so often now... I wrote the blog, posted it, and looked up to see/smell a little boy standing in front of me - COVERED IN DOG POOP!!!! And by covered, I mean covered...hands, arms, legs, outfit, ear, eyelid, eyelashes - there was no area left untouched. I cannot help but laugh in disgust. Oh the joys :-) This is real life people. 

Milestones

We've been checking in on some milestones in our family recently.

Fischer turned 2 last Friday! We celebrated by giving him a HUGE bone from Publix.

He LOVED it, and there's actually not much left of it! I am hoping that this milestone will mark the beginning of him calming down some and not licking everything in sight, but I'm not getting my hopes up. Afterall, he is a lab!

Today marks another milestone - Carter is 14 months old!

I can't believe our little man is already 14 months. It seems like just yesterday that he was a baby. Now he's such a big boy. He's been getting dangerously close to walking - he's taking connected steps and getting really brave - letting go of things all by himself and walking away from them! The one thing that made him still seem like a baby is soon to be gone, and I'll have a big walking boy on my hands! I couldn't be prouder of my lil' man! He's such a tremendous blessing!

CARTER'S 14 MONTH MILESTONES:

- He has 8 teeth!

- He is learning the correct times to wave and say "hey" or "bye-bye."

- He is getting good at climbing up into chairs and couches.

- He starting to reach for things on top of counters.

- He is starting to take connected steps, but crawling is still the primary mode of transportation.

- He claps and cheers for himself :-)

- He points to a few things in his books when we ask where they are....mostly dogs (of course)!

- He is very curious. He points to everything and says "eh" as if to say "what is that, mommy"

- He "talks" all the time.

- He is saying, dada, dog, hi/hey, mama, bubu (bubbles), bye-bye, uh-oh, and ha (hot). Every now and then he will say another random word (or phrase) - but those are the repeated words.

Happy 1st Birthday to You, Fischer!

I can't believe a year ago today, our sweet puppy, Fischer, was born!!!

It was shortly after that we found out which puppy we were getting - the "Brown Boy."

Then on November 7, 2009, we went to go pick him up in Atlanta. It was a long and tiring day!

The very next day, we found out that Fischer was already going to be a big brother!!! I was pretty thrilled that day!!!

We've done lots of playing and growing since that day!

...in fact, we've ALL been growing...

We sure do enjoy being a family of 4!
